Leland supports Intermediate budget

The Leland Board of Education at its meeting Monday made two decisions affecting the Traverse Bay Intermediate School District.

After much discussion the School board voted to support the 2017-18 general fund budget, which totals $12.1 million. It is the smallest of three budgets adopted annually by the ISD.

The others are for vocation education and special education; local districts have no say on those spending plans.

However, in year’s past Leland has chosen not to endorse the general fund budget, citing what School Board members consider too large fund balances.

Action came after Stowe and Robinson met with ISD Superintendent Mike Hill and Jim Scherrer of Northport, who serves on the TBAISD board.

In other ISD business, school trustees agreed to support Jason Tank in the ISD Election. Tank is running against incumbent trustee Jan Warren, whose tenure on the board stretches three decades.
