Public Notices For Leelanau County

Michigan law requires local governments to inform their citizenry through public notices published in newspapers of record for their communities. These notices provide residents with an easy path for following the work of their elected officials. Public notices for Leelanau County can also be accessed online at Leelanaunews.com.

 Please take notice that at the regular May 9 meeting of the Empire Township Board the Board adopted a new Appendix B, Zoning Fee Schedule, for the Empire Township Zoning Ordinance. This fee schedule shall take effect on June 19.

 Leelanau Township board meeting synopsis for May 9.

 Empire Village Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on June 5, 2017, 6:00 P.M. to receive public comments on the proposed Amendment to Storm Hill Subdivision PUD Agreement, to add a new Section (P-13).

 Bingham Township Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on June 1, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. to consider a request submitted by Ruby Ellen Farm Foundation for a Special Land Use Permit to have a Farm Store (market) in an existing building and conduct Special Events and Activities.

 Leelanau Montessori will hold it’s Annual Budget Hearing on June 19th, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.

Empire Township Public Notice

Please take notice that at the regular May 9, 2017 meeting of the Empire Township Board the Board adopted a new Appendix B, Zoning Fee Schedule, for the Empire Township Zoning Ordinance.

This fee schedule shall take effect on June 19, 2017. A copy of the Fee Schedule is available for review on the township’s website, leelanau.cc/ empiretwpord.asp, by contacting the Zoning Administrator Tim Cypher at tim@allpermits.com, the Clerk at empiretownshipclerk@gmail.com or at the Empire Township office 10098 W. Leelanau Township Board Meeting

Clerk Van Pelt called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

Board members present: Denise Dunn, Deb Van Pelt, Gary Fredrickson, and Galen Leighton. Doug Scripps, excused absence.

Seven citizens and three staff members were present.

Clerk Van Pelt appointed Trustee Leighton to Chair meeting.

Public Comment was heard from Marsha Buehler, thanked the board for taking up the Omena Fire Hall issue and she had letters of support from citizens in Omena; Jim Thomas, stated there should be oversight from the board with the paraglider group.

Agenda set as amended.

Public Comment was heard from Rick Cross, handed out the board Leelanau Township Sewer Bond Revenue Projection charts and went over them.

Approved minutes of April 11, 2017 Board Meeting as corrected.

Approved current bills in the amount of $97,133.24 as presented.

Listened to a presentation by Tom Vander Leek of Keen Technical Solutions, LLC on energy cost reduction and LED lighting for the Leelanau Township Emergency Services Hall.

Reports were heard from Ty Wessell, Leelanau County Commissioners; Hugh Cook, Emergency Services; Ben Purdy, Township Facilities.

Approved hiring Michael Bandy, Aaron Huber and Kathryn Walters to the ALS Department of the Leelanau Township Emergency Services effective May 15, 2017.

Approved hiring Danielle Danke as the new Library Director for the Leelanau Township Library effective June 1, 2017.

Approved the purchase of an HP Elite Pro-D laptop computer from Bay Area Computers in an amount not to exceed $795.00 for the Assessment Change Rolls for use by the public.

Discussed selling the Fire Department’s 1965 17 foot Boston Whaler with trailer and 90 horse motor.

Discussed and adopted the revised and amended Resolution 1 of 2017 Establishment of the Parks and Recreation Committee.

No public comments.

Correspondence and announcements were a letter received from St. Wenceslaus Parish and road closure for chicken dinner June 25, 2017, letter from Michael Sinclair referencing a community garden, reports from the Leelanau County Road Commission, one full year report of what was done last year and a monthly on what will be done in 2017. Fredrickson stated the Establishment of the Cemetery Committee Resolution should be updated as the Establishment of the Parks and Recreation Committee was.

Meeting adjourned at 8:32 p.m.

Empire Village Planning Commission Public Hearing Notice

June 5, 2017, 6:00 P.M.
Empire Town Hall, 10088 Front St.

This is to inform you that the Empire Village Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to receive public comments on the proposed Amendment to Storm Hill Subdivision PUD Agreement, to add a new Section (P-13).

The Planning Commission Regular meeting will immediately follow the public hearing that is scheduled for Tuesday, June 5, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Empire Town Hall, 10088 Front Street.

A copy of the proposed Storm Hill Subdivision PUD amendment may be seen at the Village Office, 11518 LaCore Street during regular business hours. Opinions or comments may be given at the hearing or written to the attention of the Empire Planning Commission, Box 253, Empire, MI. 49630.
