Empire to hold village-wide sale

The Village of Empire will be a picker’s paradise Saturday, June 3, as the community hosts its inaugural village-wide garage sale.

More than 20 garages are lined up to be open for business with household treasures ranging from lawn furniture to clothing.

The sale was organized by Jo Anne “Yogi” Beare.

“I was making a furnished apartment into an unfinished apartment and thought about having a garage sale,” Beare said. “I’ve seen different communities have big garage sales, so I thought we should give it a try.”

Participating homes will be marked and bargain hunters will receive a complete list of sale sites on their first stop. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And while its size pales in comparison to the 180-mile, “Michigan’s Longest Garage Sale” held along the U.S. 12 Heritage Trail each August, there are sure to be good finds at the village-wide event.

“We have two dozen individual homes so far, and I expect we’ll have more as we get closer to the date,” Beare said.
