Roofing bid accepted for Suttons Bay school work

Bids to replace roofing and for site work for the school’s new playground equipment were approved this week by the Suttons Bay Board of Education.

The board voted 6-0 Monday to accept a bid from Bloxsom Roofing to replace the roof on the secondary story portion of the elementary school. Bloxsom’s bid for $251,000 was the lowest submitted.

Bloxsom is familiar with Suttons Bay’s roofs as they have replaced several in the school since the district’s bond proposal passed in 2015.

Also approved by the board was a bid from Team Elmer’s to prepare the site for installation of playground equipment. Elmer’s bid of $52,400 was also the lowest submitted, Superintendent Chris Nelson said.

In April the board approved the purchase of $53,000 in playground equipment for early childhood education students. Installation is scheduled for some time in July.

The School Board agreed Monday to finance the purchase of three vehicles — two Dodge Caravans and one GMC Sierra — with Chemical Bank in an amount not to exceed $83,055.

Business manager LeAnn Eustice said money for the 2017 vehicles is being borrowed at 2.99 percent interest.

In other business the board:

• Agreed to support Jason Tank in the (TBAISD) Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District’s board election.

• Endorsed the proposed and supported the TBAISD’s 2017-18 general fund budget.

• Approved a membership resolution for the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
