“We heard nothing but positive and amazing things,” said Dale Watkoski, grandson of the late Ed & Irene Fleis and co-chair of the Spring Fling. “More than 100 sponsors and donors stepped up for this year’s event and we are very thankful.”

Forty-five $1,000 scholarships were awarded to students residing in Leelanau County or with county lineage. The amount of scholarships awarded and money raised was the most in the Fleis Education Fund history.

Dozens of prizes were raffled or auctioned off at the Lake Leelanau VFW Post. The top three prize winners were Scott and Sherry Overholt of Cedar, a one-week vacation home on South Lake Leelanau or a one-week trip to destinations throughout the world; Ben Ericson, Traverse City, 55-inch flat screen TV; and Lynne Watkoski, Suttons Bay Township, four park hopper tickets to Walt Disney World.

More than 250 people attended the fundraiser. The night included face painting, dancing and music by the Ray Watkoski Family Band, Fully Charged and Larry and the Larks and special guests appearances.

Dale and Lynne Watkoski were cochairs of the Spring Fling, replacing longtime chair Ted Fleis.

“With Dale and Lynne co-chairing, I was able to relax and talk with many people in attendance this year,” Fleis noted. “Everyone just loved the wonderful prize opportunities and winning.”
