Getting our heroes straight

MR. HOUDEK MR. HOUDEK Both men are heroes in our book. One has died, and one remains very much alive.

A cutline on the back page of last week’s special Memorial Day section misidentified a World War II veteran in the accompanying photo.

The man pictured was World War II veteran Louis Houdek, who is very much alive at the age of 95 and resides in Leland. A member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he parachuted behind enemy lines in the European Theater. The cutline referred to Peter Korson, also a WW II vet. Mr. Korson passed away on May 1 and was honored at the county Memorial Day ceremony.

We sincerely regret the error, and thank both men for their service.
