Holmes went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and a home run—with eight RBI—as St. Mary advanced to the district championship with a 14-3 win.

St. Mary skipper Teresa Szur said Holmes was a “terror” at the plate.

“The difference in this game was hitting,” Szur said. “We were able to get some good swings in versus their pitching staff, and Shannon Popp pretty much held them at bay for most of the game. The defense behind her made all of the plays it was supposed to make.”

Popp scattered six hits, two walks and three earned runs across six innings while striking out nine. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in a run.

Nicole Wittman added two RBI; Olivia Schaub finished 3-for-4 with one RBI; and Jenna Sumner went 2-for-5 with one RBI, three stolen bases and four runs.
