Grads earn scholarships

Three graduating seniors from Northport Public School were awarded $12,470 in scholarship from five Leelanau Township Community Foundation funds.

In addition, $1,100 was awarded to graduating seniors from the Northport Promise scholarship fund, which is managed by the foundation.

Scholarship winners and their awards are:

• Manmeet Dhami — The Edwin Suddard and Ruth Suddard Kellogg Scholarship of $4,400; a Northport Promise Scholarship of $1,100 and the Winfield H. & Dr. Grace Song Line Scholarship, $800.

Dhami plans to attend Wayne State University.

* Elizabeth Fredrickson —The Anson & Ruth Solem Science Scholarship in the amount of $4,000. She also received the Florence F. Evett Scholarship in the amount of $2,000.

Fredrickson plans to attend Michigan State University.

• Sarah Sleder was chosen to received the Kreig Leabo Memorial Scholarship. She will have $1,470 to attend Northwestern Michigan College.

The Leelanau Township Foundation is the third oldest community foundation in the state. Since its creation in 1945 the foundation has assisted many community projects and nonprofits in Leelanau Township as well as administering numerous scholarships for local graduates.
