Artisans putting on quite the shows

Art lovers have ample opportunities this weekend. They can stroll from store to store Friday evening in Suttons Bay to view work from artists and sample local fare at the 11th annual Summer Solstice Art & Wine Walk.

And in Northport, they can attend the SPARKS exhibition of work from artists under the age of 40. Coverage of both can be found in Section Two.

Polka starts one week early

The big tents are going up in Cedar, so it’s nearly time to grab your dancing shoes and head to the 36th annual Polka Fest.

The fest will be held one week earlier. Family-friendly fun begins at 5 p.m. next Thursday, June 22, and continues through Sunday, June 26.

Don’t know how to polka? Free lessons will be offered Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Solon Township Hall.

Farmers market now all open

With two opening days in the next week, all five Leelanau County Farmers Markets will soon be open. Today is opening day for the Leland market, and the Empire Market opens Saturday. Markets are held Saturdays in Suttons Bay, Tuesdays in Glen Arbor and Fridays in Northport. No markets will be held this season in Lake Leelanau or Cedar. Markets open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
