Just one bid in Centerville

An architect has been selected to prepare drawings for renovations at the Centerville Township hall.

The Township Board voted 5-0 on June 14 to hire Andy Rink of Lake Leelanau to draw up plans to create a meeting room and office space in the area previously rented for social occasions.

Supervisor Jim Schwantes explained that nine parties had expressed interest in the project and five made onsite visits to the hall.

Only Rink, however, submitted a bid.

“They came out and looked at it. Some said they could do it; another asked for additional time to come up with a plan,” Schwantes said.

Rink’s bid provided a “not to exceed” quote of $7,200.

In other business during the regular monthly meeting:

Schwantes reported that the final audit for the defunct Solon-Centerville Township Fire Department is set for July 28 and 29. The department was dissolved in March 2016 and a new department — the Cedar Area Fire & Rescue — was formed.

Discussed preparing a newsletter to go out in tax bills and the possible sharing of email addresses to create more “connectiveness” in the rural township.
