Having a conversation with Ina Vanderwerff

GLEN ARBOR resident Ina Vanderwerff was born in Siberia, Russia. GLEN ARBOR resident Ina Vanderwerff was born in Siberia, Russia. Name: Ina Vanderwerff

Town or township of residence: I live in Glen Arbor, about a mile from the actual town.

Resident since: I was about 1 or 2 when we moved here. We used to live in Grand Rapids and we would vacation up here in our cottage. Eventually my mom just loved it so much we had to move here full time.

Age and birthplace: I am 18 years old and I was born in Siberia, Russia.

Occupation: I am a busser at Blu, a really nice restaurant in Glen Arbor right on Lake Michigan.

Marital status: Not married...probably in 10 years or so?

You live in Leelanau County because: My mom and dad really loved it up here, so I really had no choice…but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It is truly the most beautiful place to grow up.

Last good movie you saw: Pirates of the Caribbean 3. Johnny Depp just keeps getting funnier!

Last good book you read: Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris. I read the whole thing on spring break and it kept me laughing from start to finish.

If you could trade places with one person for one day, it would be: Probably Ellen DeGeneres because she is always making people laugh without being mean, she is always nice and gives back to the people in a fun, friendly way!

Things important to you that you’ve accomplished so far: Getting accepted into Grand Valley State University, graduating high school, being on my school’s track team since 7th grade! Going to Europe twice, navigating the Chicago and New York airport by myself, and staying true to myself.

What you hope to be doing in ten years: Hopefully I’ll be living in Florence, Italy as an orthodontist.

Things you lose sleep over: Spending time looking at memes on the internet.

If you could change one thing in Leelanau County it would be: More recycling and composting throughout all the county. Since this is one of “the most beautiful places in America” it should be treated as such!

Favorite dessert: On all my sibling’s birthdays, my mom always makes this Oreo Dessert that is seriously the best thing in the entire world. It contains melted chocolate, whip cream, cherries, vanilla ice-cream, and of course crushed oreos!

Are you a coffee drinker?: YES! I really enjoy drinking coffee any time of day! My favorite is either regular with french vanilla creamer or a mocha frappuccino.

Favorite place in Leelanau County: Probably Alligator Hill, my family and I always hike up there and it is still amazing to see how many trees are still left fallen over after the crazy summer storm of 2015.

If you had more time you would: Travel more than I already do.

The words that best describe you are: Hilarious, intelligent, caring, selfless, positive, and hard-working.
