Chicken dinners start at St. Wenceslaus

The first church to offer up a chicken dinner this summer is St. Wenceslaus in Gill’s Pier.

It’s always an historic occasion, as the Parish has been serving chicken dinners for 109 straight years. A secret-recipe cole slaw and “treasurer” sale are also part of the day.

Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Wenceslaus, located at 8500 E. Kolarik Rd.

It’s easy to take a kid fishing

Grab your kid and a fishing pole — actually, the pole is optional — on Sunday and head to Kids’ Fishing Day at Veronica Valley.

More than 2,000 bluegills have been stocked for the free, family fishing event, set from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hot dogs will be on the grill and pop in the cooler.

Kids Fishing Pond is found in Veronica Valley County Park is located about five miles south of Lake Leelanau on Co. Rd. 641.

No figures for Glen Lake budget

We’d like to tell you about the proposed budget for Glen Lake Community Schools, but we can’t. The information wasn’t released prior to our Wednesday deadline.

Regardless, the Board of Education has scheduled a public hearing on the 2017-18 budget for 8 a.m. next Wednesday, June 28, in the high school media center.

The budget will set expected revenues and expenses for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.
