Talbot, the 2015 winner, was unseated in 2016 by now-graduated Evan Hendershot. But Talbot shot a 168 out of 200 possible birds during the fourweek competition, surpassing Tyler Flores in the Senior Group and racking up the most hits among 41 shooters competing in three divisions.

Greyson Booth was named top gun in the intermediate group with 158 birds in closer competition. In the Junior Group, Carter Harriger topped the field with 81 birds.

But the youth trap league provides more than competition, according to Emily Burgess, a five-season shooter who graduated this year from St. Mary School.

“I’m going to miss it,” Burgess said. “It’s challenging in a different way. It’s more of a mental thing. It takes skill, but anybody can learn how to shoot. So it’s a matter of doing it correctly every time.”

SENIOR DIVISION winners in the Youth Trap League include Max Gurthet, shooting coach Jim Balesh, Cody Campbell, Ethan Gzebeniak and Cody Diesler.
