2 felony charges arise from alleged sexual encounter

RICHMOND RICHMOND An alleged sexual encounter that took place in the middle of a spring day on a busy Suttons Bay street has led to felony charges of gross indecency for a 26-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, both of Traverse City.

Ann S. Richmond and Robert J. Shindorf were arraigned Tuesday in 86th District Court, according to a court report.

Both face up to five years in prison or fines of up to $2,500 if convicted.

Each is free after posting $10,000 personal recognizance bonds.

The charges stem from an incident that took place at about 4:45 on April 8 in which a citizen called 9-1-1 to report that two people were having sex in a vehicle parked on St. Joseph Street in downtown Suttons Bay, according to the report.

Both Richmond and Shindorf have probable cause conferences set for July 25 and preliminary examinations for Aug. 1.

Richmond is also requesting a court-appointed attorney, the report said. Shindorf has indicated he will represent himself.
