Borkovich records first minor-league win

BORKOVICH BORKOVICH Walter Borkovich didn’t rest on his laurels following his recent promotion.

Borkovich, who was recently moved up from the Gulf Coast League to the Appalachian League affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, put together a pair of solid appearances on the mound last week.

The former undrafted Michigan State pitcher not only made his first appearance for the Danville Braves in a 9-4 victory over the Princeton Rays at Hunnicutt Field in West Virginia Friday — he was also the pitcher of record.

He tossed 2.2 innings of shutout ball, giving up one hit and striking out four.

Borkovich surrendered the first run of his pro career three days later in a 5-2 home win over the Bluefield Blue Jays at Dan Daniel Memorial Park in Virginia, but didn’t look bad in doing so. He gave up two hits and no walks in 2.0 innings while striking out one.
