Join fun in Northport by painting mural

To the editor:

Thank you, Northport Arts Association and the Northport Public Arts Committee (PAC) for selecting my creative design proposal for the Northport Marina Wall Mural, titled “BAY PRESENTS”.

The goal of PAC is to display quality public art that contributes to the economic strength of our community. “BAY PRESENTS” was designed to engage family members and individuals across generations.

The colorful graphic style mural is designed as a “paint by numbers” art piece. We need you — the community — to bring the mural into full color. Everyone of all ages and abilities are invited to participate. Dress for painting. We’ll provide the supplies.

The completed piece will be installed on the 111-foot wall facing the North Marina parking lot adjacent to the boardwalk. Fourteen 8-foot panels will be at the Northport Village Arts Building ready to be painted on Wednesday, Aug. 9 and Thursday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon, 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.; and Sunday, August 13 from 1-3 p.m.

Take an active role in turning the gray parking lot into a splash of bold colors. The outline of the artwork will be milled into the panels. Instead of coloring within lines you’ll paint between the grooves.

For additional information contact Ernie Barry 231-386-9249; Tom Woodruff 616-745-9742; Chris Verdon 231-386-9798.

We’re grateful to Northport, a village that values our artistic community. The Northport Marina Mural is underwritten with grants from the Leelanau Township Community Foundation and The Village of Northport’s Marina Fund. Donations toward this project can be sent to Mural: BAY PRESENTS, Northport Arts Association, P.O. Box 262, Northport, Mich. 49670.

Join the fun!
