Speak, hang out with Bards

Whether it’s an ode by Keats, a limerick by Kipling or a poem of your own creation, get up on your soapbox and do some emoting Friday at the final Beach Bards Bonfire for the year. The fun takes place at the Leelanau School beach in Glen Arbor. You may even be called upon to strum a guitar, clap your hands or sing. You’re lone restriction is to keep it clean from 8-9 p.m., which is the children’s hour.

Pancakes come with entertainment

If you haven’t had your fill of pancakes yet, the Northport Lions Club Fly-In Pancake Breakfast and Car Show on Saturday offers flap jacks and entertainment with planes landing and taking off at Woolsey Airport in Leelanau Township. The Northport Community Band will also play. If it rains, the event will be held on Sunday. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for kids 5-12, with kids under 4 eating for free.

Uplug and hear message

Head to the Old Art Building next Wednesday, Aug. 9, for a presentation by Chris Andrews, who walked across America to spread his “Let’s Talk, USA” message. People need to unplug from technology and talk to each other, he stresses. Andrews will talk about his journey from 7-9 p.m. The Leelanau Summinars event is free.
