Expect busy roadways on Saturday as bike race returns

Last year, the Cherry-Roubaix became the largest mass start bicycle event in Leelanau County and Traverse City history with nearly 450 bikers.

Another big crowd is expected to roll across Leelanau County motorways Saturday as the three-tiered Cherry-Roubaix returns with 20-mile, 60-mile and 90-mile races.

Since its inception in 2007, the Cherry-Roubaix has consistently been the largest road race in the state. The event is now a Granfondo, or a “cycling experience for everyone.”

Races start in Traverse City at 10 a.m. and end with an after party at Herman Park across the street from Suttons Bay Public Schools. The VI Grill will provide food for the occasion while the Jolly Pumpkin pours beer and 45 North serves cider and wine.
