The Empire Lions Club annual auction and yard sale, set for Saturday, always provides good deals. Get to Johnson Park early and take a look at the auction items, etc.

Apparently your automobile isn’t safe even in a parking lot. Unfortunately an antique pickup was hit in the Wildflower’s parking lot. I guess this is another reason to drive with your eyes open and be careful.

I think it is interesting that we had such bad weather last week as it was the anniversary of the “big wind”.

Sincere condolences to the family and many, many friends of Harold O’Brien.

Join Chris Skellenger and Buckets of Rain Tuesday at Motorcity Wine off Michigan Ave. in Detroit for a fundraiser to benefit the urban farm Buckets of Rain program. Also performing will be Patrick Niemisto on guitar and bass.

Also there will be Esto’s Garage, a Detroit favorite pop up kitchen and food truck.

Buckets of Rain is a non-profit organization with history in Kenya, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, and more. Since 2012, efforts have focused closer to home where the hard working, generous group turned 30 abandoned city lots in Highland Park and Detroit into lush gardens that provide healthy, fresh produce to people in blighted areas. They work to feed the homeless through the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Ticket are $20, and available online.

The “Summer Singers,” the traditional closing act for the Manitou Music Festival, will provide a wide variety of music under the direction of Dana Allen. For the past 15 summers the singers, who number about 50, have welcomed all comers to weekly rehearsals. The concert will be held at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church at no charge.

I was asked why I was a Sox fan and didn’t like the Cubs. After a split second of thinking my answer was, “Because it’s the Cubs.” I never thought I would be considered a die hard Sox fan, but their record looks like it might be the case.

A lot of summer left and the visitors are thinning out — but still here.
