Wants Heritage trail completed to Co. Rd. 651

To the editor:

After attending the Cleveland Township Board meeting on August 8, I’m encouraged at the prospect of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail being completed to its originally planned destination; County Road 651. The township is in a position to take an active role in the completion of the trail and its residents who spoke during the open forum were 100% supportive of the trail extension to Good Harbor Trail.

The collaborative effort of the National Park Service, TART Trails and Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes have a unified goal of both protecting the natural resources and encouraging outdoor experiences of residents and visitors alike. With the environmental studies completed and private funding available, it is my hope that other residents of Cleveland Township will embrace the trail completion project that can only improve our quality of life here in Leelanau County.
