Charge filed in dog shooting

A Northport man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly shooting and killing his dog, according to a court report.

A warrant has been issued for Anthony M. Lee, of 6312 N. Overlook Road, after he failed to appear for arraignment Tuesday on the charge.

His bond has been set at $1,000.

The alleged shooting took place on July 12, the report said.

A charge of animal cruelty resulting in the animal’s death is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, $2,000 in fines or up to 300 hours of community service.

A judge may also order a psychiatric evaluation, or a defendant could be ordered not to own an animal.
