Plea, sentencings in Circuit Court

13th Circuit Court

Sentences were handed down for two men on Monday by the Honorable Kevin A. Elsenheimer and a third man entered a plea in 13th Circuit Court.

A 32-year-old Traverse City man who was accused of attempting to steal two golf carts from Sugar Loaf Golf Course in Leland Township has pleaded guilty to several charges that include possession of burglary tools, receiving and concealing stolen property and drunken driving third offense, a felony.

Jason J. Ford has also agreed to be sentenced as a three-time habitual offender.

In exchange for his guilty plea, two charges of receiving and concealing stolen property and three weapons charges will be dismissed.

The charge is related to a June 6 incident in which Ford loaded the two golf carts on a trailer behind a motor home that had been stolen out of Grand Traverse County, court reports have said.

Ford was also arrested for drunken driving and for driving on a suspended license. When the motor home was searched, Leelanau County sheriff’s deputies found burglary tools that included bolt cutters and a loaded rifle, reports said.

He has been held in the Leelanau jail on a 10 percent, $25,000 bond.

Ford is also named in several bench warrants out of Grand Traverse County for failure to pay fines on past convictions, and he has a collections warrant out of Antrim County on a drunken driving conviction.

Ford has been referred for a presentence investigation. His sentencing is set for Sept. 25.

Ryan A. Wainwright, 39, of Suttons Bay, was given a suspended sentence of three months in jail with credit for 16 days served on a charge of attempted assault with intent to do great bodily harm.

Wainwright will also served two years probation and will pay fines and costs of $730.

The charges stemmed from a May 9 incident in which deputies were sent to Wainwright’s home after a 30-year-old woman called to report a domestic assault in progress, reports said. The woman told deputies that she and Wainwright — her boyfriend — had argued and he threw her down onto a bed and choked her, reports said.

Dylan J. Williams, 27, of Traverse City, has been sentenced to three months in jail with credit for 58 days served on a charge of attempted uttering and publishing.

Williams will also serve 18 months probation and will pay fines and costs of $330 and restitution of $480.
