Enjoy barbecue, help families

Head to a family barbecue on Saturday and help a local family or a family in Houston. The barbecue, from 5-8 p.m. at Leelanau Community Church in Lake Leelanau, is free. Cash donations will be taken for victims of Hurricane Harvey and provided to Samaritan’s Purse Flood Relief. Donations will also be taken to help Dale and Karla Schaub of Lake Leelanau pay some outstanding medical expenses.

Classic boats, maritime fun

Check out classic boats on Saturday at the Discovery Pier in Greilickville as the Maritime Heritage Alliance returns to the classic boat shows held in the late 1970s. All are welcome to attend the Classic Sail, Paddle & Row Boat Show taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a slew of activities planned all day. Coverage in Section Two.

9/11 ceremonies planned in county

Remember all who fell on 9/11 and attend two memorial services taking place. The first is the Remember 9.11.01 service offered by Glen Lake Fire Department at 8:30 a.m. at the fire station in Glen Arbor. The second event takes place at 5:15 p.m. at the Leland Fire Station. It will be followed by open houses from 6-8 p.m. at the Leland and the Lake Leelanau stations.
