Enrollment for the GAAA’s October after-school art program is now. Children may explore a variety of art materials and enjoy the camaraderie of other young creators under the guidance of Leah Lawson, an art instructor with the Glen Lake Schools. A snack and art supplies are included in the $50 tuition fee. Registration is required by Monday. Tuition assistance is available. Call 334-6112.

Another vegetable fest in Empire, at least I think hops are vegetables. I guess it’s one of vegetables that we drink. Moving right along, the Empire Hops and Harvest Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 7, and presented by the Empire Chamber of Commerce. We are looking forward to a great festival that celebrates a successful hops harvest with live music, local food and of course plenty of beer! Tickets are $15 and include a beer glass and a drink ticket.

Watercolorist Don Andrews will hold a workshop at the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor covering “designing nature and figures in the landscape” from Oct. 16-19. Andrews will help students simplify their subject matter and explore how color and value bring balance to a composition.

We are of course coming up to the Glen Arbor Trick-or-Treating which will be Sunday, Oct. 29. Some of the costumes last year were amazing. But it doesn’t matter what the costume is, the kids have a great time. Parents do, too. More on that later.
