Empire’s a busy place

The Empire Area Museum Complex will celebrate Heritage Day at the museum on Saturday, Oct. 14. from 1-4 p.m.

A collection of hand-crafted Faberge eggs made in Empire in the 1970s by Helen Witt will be displayed. Vintage cars, tractors and hit-and-miss engines will fill the museum grounds with old fashion craft and food demonstrations.

While we are in Empire, the annual Hops and Harvest Festival will be held Saturday with food, drinks and live performances. The celebration will go all day under the big tent. Admission is $15 and includes a commemorative glass and drink ticket. Kids under 16 are free.

Also on Saturday but starting at 7:30 a.m. will be the 6th annual Endurance Evolution Sleeping Bear Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K. All races start and finish in Empire.

The Glen Arbor Women’s Club will hold its meeting Tuesday in the Glen Arbor Township Hall. Linda Dewey will speak. Members and guests are welcome.

Columbus Day is coming up, I’m not sure the colors will peak by then, which is normal. Enjoy the weekend.

The latest winners of the Empire Lucky 13 drawings are Dick Figura on Sept. 11, Fisher Alonzi on Sept. 18 and Nathan Zientek on Sept. 25.

Well the Cubs have done it again, for the first time in 120 years they’ve been in the playoffs three years in a row. As an avowed Sox fan, I think the Cubs may have caused a few heated discussions in the Chicago area this past weekend. At least the Sox didn’t end up in last place in our division and I think the Detroit fans know who did.
