You live in Leelanau County because: Oh so many reasons! The people, the peace and quiet, the trees and landscape, no traffic, the Lake and the Park.

Last good movie you saw: “The Divine Order” at the TC Film Festival. It was a warm, serious, and humorous film about the feminist movement coming to Switzerland.

Last good book you read: “Ratf**ked.” It’s about gerrymandering and how it has destroyed fair elections for voters; instead, politicians get to decide whose vote counts.

If you could trade places with one person for one day, it would be: Mark Rothko, the artist. There are also a few science fiction writers…

Things important to you that you’ve accomplished so far: A happy marriage and the writing of my culinary textbook, “Discovering Global Cuisines.” I also owned and ran restaurant/cooking school called City Kitchen and have taught many people to cook.

What you hope to be doing in 10 years: Making art, traveling, and having adventures with friends.

Things you lose sleep over: Animal and child cruelty

If you could change one thing in Leelanau County it would be: I would keep it a quiet and peaceful place to live.

Favorite dessert: A bowl of Michigan blueberries or tart cherries with coconut milk

Are you a coffee drinker? No. Rooibos tea is my morning drink.

Favorite place in Leelanau County: It’s a secret.

If you had more time you would: Write more and make more art.

The words that best describe you are: Loyal, opinionated, and creative
