There may be a problem getting to the Glen Lake Reform Church as 616 or MacFarlane Rd is going to be closed to through traffic apparently from Plowman to Bow roads. The suggested route around the closure is, if eastbound on 616 turn south onto Plowman road and continue to M 72. Turn East on M 72 and continue to Gilbert Road located 1 mile to the east. Turn north onto Gilbert Road and travel one mile to Baatz Road located 1 mile to the north. Turn east onto Baatz Road and travel 3/4 of a mile to the east to Fritz Road. Turn north onto Fritz Road and travel a northwesterly direction to Burdickville Road approximately 2 miles to the north. The intersection is located 1/2 mile east of Bow Road. and the 616 intersection. Obviously reversed course if heading westbound. I am sure some of the locals will travel an easier or faster route.

It was a great weekend, a little soggy at times, but all in all not too bad for this time of year. The colors are changing and as always much faster downstate than here. I feel that the next weekend will be pretty close to peak color, so look forward to more leaf peepers. After the leaf peepers comes another local occurrence, leaf sweepers.

The annual Heritage Celebration at the Empire Museum was again very enjoyable and interesting. If you have never been to the Empire Museum, you have missed one of the best, if not the best small town museums I have ever seen. It is amazing.

The annual Pumpkin Fest is set for Saturday at the Glen Arbor Township Park, AKA the tennis courts. This a fun fall family and of course because it’s a Glen Arbor pet friendly activity. There will be live music and pumpkins galore. Attendance is free but there is a $5 donation asked per child to participate in organize activities.

Also, Sept. 21 marks the 47th anniversary of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Celebrate the National Lakeshore’s birthday at the final star party at Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive stop No. 3 from 8-11 p.m. Please Park at picnic mountain which is the next right turn after stop No. 2.

On Sunday before Halloween, Oct. 29, from noon to 4 p.m., don’t miss Glen Arbor trick-or-treating. It is a real kick seeing all the parents and kids in town trick-or-treating during the day in safety and having the stores and businesses partake it’s just a very very fun afternoon. And some of the costumes are unbelievable.
