A 26-year-old Traverse City woman was arrested for drunken driving after being found sleeping in her car on the side of the road in Suttons Bay Township, according to a report that was not available from the Sheriff’s Office for publication in our Oct. 19 edition.

At about 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 a sheriff’s deputy who was on patrol spotted a blue Honda Civic stopped on the shoulder along M-204.

The vehicle had tinted windows so the deputy was unable to see inside of the vehicle, according to the report. When he stopped to check on the motorist, he saw a woman in the driver’s seat who appeared to be sleeping, the report said.

After several knocks on the window and the hood of the vehicle, the deputy was able to wake the woman up, who then stepped on the gas pedal, the report said. Fortunately, the running vehicle was in park.

An investigation determined that she was intoxicated, the report said.

The woman was arrested for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

She was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail, where her blood alcohol level tested at more than double the legal driving limit, according to the report.
