Katofsky credible, has ‘realistic’ plan for Sugar Loaf

To the editor:

After listening to Sugar Loaf’s new owner describe plans to build a high-end resort last week, here are a few observations:

Jeff Katofsky appears to be credible, ambitious and motivated. He seems to have the track record and connections necessary to make the resort a long-term success.

While he has not ruled out downhill skiing, all the uncertainties of a short and unpredictable ski season will likely mean a whole new direction for the future of Sugar Loaf.

In outlining a five year plan, he sounded innovative yet realistic regarding what he wants to accomplish.

My family lives less than 3 miles from Sugar Loaf, and we can attest to the need for accommodating an increasing ‘guest-load’ in our area. We hosted 66 guests this past summer while renting a small guest house on a short-term basis, and we were inundated with requests for lodging. On most weekends, we could have booked our guesthouse at least 10 times based on the demand we experienced.

Our county will very likely continue to gain popularity as an event and tourist destination. If Mr. Katofsky can bring Sugar Loaf back to life in the way he outlined, the economic ripple should benefit hundreds of county residents.
