Students feted for peace posters

Marley Kohler, an 8th grader from Lake Leelanau St. Mary, was the winner of the Cedar-Maple City Lions Club Peace Poster contest.

Judges Christine Griffith, Val Eimers and Pat Hobbins selected her poster as the best of 33 submitted in the annual contest, the theme of which was “The Future of Peace.”

Kohler won $50 and an achievement award. Her poster will be entered at the regional level of the contest, which is run by Lions International.

Matthew Kohler and Emily Grant, both 8th graders, won $25 apiece and a certificate of achievement as second and third-place winners.

Sixth graders Leah Fleis, Sophia Bardenhagen and Jerry Schaub finished fourth, fifth and sixth in the competition. Each received certifications of achievement.

Honorable mentions went to Jenaya Thoreson, Maddie Pawlowicz, Delana Kirt and Alex Flores.
