Lady Lakers fall short at Manton

The Glen Lake volleyball team’s recent struggles at districts continued at Manton last Wednesday.

The Lady Lakers lost to Manton, the district champion, in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) and finished 20-15.

“I’m proud of the way the girls progressed as a team as the season went along,” coach Liz Moeggenberg said. “There were moments when we played a lot of great volleyball and the girls played as a true team. The girls worked really hard to improve this season with a lot of heart, sweat and tears.”

Mallory Lund led Glen Lake offensively with 14 kills. Morgan Zywicki added six kills and 16 digs; Hanna VanDuzen had 27 assists and 10 digs.

The program has now lost 22 of its last 24 sets at district tournaments, but Moeggenberg and her Lakers appear primed to turn things around next year.

“We will miss all three of the seniors next year, but the team coming back will be fun to coach and holds a lot of potential,” she said.
