Forum set on voting rights

The League of Women Voters (LWV) Leelanau County will host a public forum entitled “Protect Our Vote” at noon next Wednesday, Nov. 29 at the county government center.

The forum will feature an interactive presentation by LWV Michigan president Judy Karandjeff and advocacy vice president Joan Hunault.

They will focus on how citizens obtained the right to vote, and the history of voter suppression then and now. Also discussed will be ways to protect voting and make it more accessible.

Four members of the audience will leave the forum with a gift: a boxed set of the three volume graphic novel “March” by Congressman John Lewis; “The King Years” by Taylor Branch; “The Fight to Vote” by Michael Waldman; or “Give Us the Ballot” by Ari Berman.

The public is invited. Many people bring a sack lunch.
