Hearing postponed for man charged with heroin death

A 21-year-old former Wisconsin man charged with delivery of a controlled substance causing death was in court again on Tuesday.

Preston Weaver was arraigned last week in connection with the heroin overdose death of 31-year-old Kevin D. Yannett of Suttons Bay.

On Tuesday, a motion to adjourn Weaver’s preliminary examination was granted. That hearing has been rescheduled for Jan. 9.

Also charged last week was Erin S. Grant, 20, formerly of Suttons Bay.

Both Grant and Weaver remain in the Leelanau County Jail. Both are being held on bonds of $100,000.

Their charges carry a sentence of up to life in prison.

Yannett died on Nov. 22 after being found unresponsive in a home in the 600 block of South West Bayshore Drive in Suttons Bay Village.

Weaver and Grant were arrested after an investigation determined they had allegedly sold the heroin to Yannett, according to information from the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office. They were found at a home in Peshawbestown.
