4-H offers popular ski program for kids

The 4-H and Snowboard program will offer two new programs in addition to its traditional ski and snowboard lessons this winter at The Homestead.

Youth age 12 to 15 are eligible for a Jr. Ski Patrol program that may appeal to students who no longer need lessons.

“It’s great, because the kids are going to learn some safety tips, what to look for on the mountain, and actually get to practice it,” 4-H program coordinator Rosali Collier said. “The program will allow youth to prep for becoming real ski patrolers, which they can’t do until age 16.”

Participants must be able to ski up to a blue square or easy black diamond hill. Cost is $95 for lessons only; $135 for lessons plus a lift ticket or equipment; and $170 for lessons, a lift ticket and equipment rental.

Advanced skills are also required for the 4-H Homestead Ski Racing program.

Participants from age 12-15 will receive two hours or training each Sunday.

They must be able to make consistent turns on advanced terrain and be ready to explore all the mountain has to offer. They will learn the tactics and skills needed to ski steeper terrain in variable snow conditions.

Cost for training only is $200. Training plus a lift ticket or equipment is $240. Training plus a lift ticket and equipment retail is $275.

Registration is limited to 12 students.
