ISABELL TORRANCE NIELSEN

September 2, 1926 – 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Isabell Nielsen announce her passing. She died peacefully surrounded by family at Munson Hospice House on December 2, 2017, near her home in Suttons Bay, Michigan, where she spent many wonderful years in retirement.

Isabell was born in Walkersville, Ontario, Canada and grew up in the Detroit area. She married Victor Nielsen, the love of her life, in 1947, and together they moved to Utica, Michigan and raised their family. In 1978, they moved to Suttons Bay, Michigan to enjoy the home they designed and built on Hill Top Road. Both were avid rockhounds, leading to their opening of “Nature Gifts”, a rock and mineral shop in their home in 1988. Upon Victor’s passing, Isabell moved closer into Suttons Bay.

“We Are Love” – that is the story of Isabell’s life and her family today. What a story it is; one that we’d like to share with anyone who was ever a part of it. She was a queen. She had tremendous strength, wisdom and faith which never waivered. Her devotion to her husband, being a loving mother of four children and a proud beaming grandmother and great grandmother, all consumed her life. Her passions were wide ranging, from the love of her family and friends, to nature, cooking, rocks, silversmithing and beading. She excelled in everything she touched.

She suffered great loss with the passing of her husband, her son Rob, his wife, Cindy and most recently, her daughter, Kristi Romano.

She leaves behind her son, Tim (Emily) Nielsen of Traverse City, Michigan, her daughter, Tori Nielsen of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her son in law, Jim Romano of Washington, Michigan. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Cory (Dan) Russell of Chelsea, Michigan, Heather (Joe) Romano of Shelby Township, Michigan, Paul (Melissa) Romano of Armada, Michigan, Ryan (Abbey) Nielsen of Traverse City, Michigan, Nick (Samantha) Romano of Rochester, Michigan, Dana Nielsen of Suttons Bay, Michigan, Gwen (Anthony) Locricchio of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Jens (Kim) Nielsen of San Francisco, California and Soren Nielsen of New York, New York. She will forever be remembered by her fourteen plus great grandchildren as their “GG”. Our queen is stepping down from her reign and passing on her legacy of family unity, love and affection.

A Celebration of Isabell , a memorial service is being planned for the late spring of 2018 and will be held locally.
