Leland alumna secures all-region soccer honors

MUNOZ MUNOZ Libby Munoz lengthened her already long list of career accolades last week.

Munoz, a two-sport athlete at Kalamazoo College and a 2016 Leland graduate, landed United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-Central Region honors last week following a sophomore season in which she led the Hornets with 19 goals and four assists. She was one of 13 players named to the all-region second team.

“Libby proved to be one of the most prolific attackers not just in the region but also in the country,” Kalamazoo coach Bryan Goyings said.

The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) goals leader netted nine game winners as a sophomore — the most in Division III.

The Kalamazoo College 2017 female Rookie/Newcomer of the Year was a two-time Offensive Player of the Week for the Hornets (11-8-1) this fall and an All-MIAA First Team honoree.

Munoz began her sophomore basketball season Nov. 18. She was averaging 6.3 points per game as of last Thursday, fourth most on the team.
