Solstice a time to celebrate

Celebrate the shortest day of the year in two years on the Peninsula. The Leelanau Community Cultural Center will host an oboe and piano concert at 6:30- p.m. Friday at the Old Art Building. The Dance Leelanau Ballet Troup will also perform.

And the Hot Bisquits will perform from 7:30-10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Village Arts Building in Northport.

Empire has big doings

Head to Empire for some good eats on Saturday, when the annual Holiday Potluck Dinner will be held from 5-9 p.m., and then again for some good music on Sunday, when the annual Empire Area Emergency Fund Auction & Concert takes place from 4-6 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will arrive for dinner at 7 p.m.

Both events are sponsored by the Empire Area Community Center at the Empire Township Hall.

Cedar Fire to pick new chief

At 7 p.m. today, the Cedar Area Fire Board is scheduled to meet at the Cedar Fire Hall to choose a successor to retiring Fire Chief Dan Petroskey. The Fire Board is comprised of representatives of member townships of Solon, Centerville, Cleveland and Kasson.
