Season’s message: Love protects, trusts, hopes, always perseveres

To the editor:

Once again we are experiencing the season of joy and good will per the message of the angels to shepherds at the birth of Jesus. As children of all ages focus on the beauty of the story of a babe lying in a manger, let us remember the message of the man that babe grew to be.

Jesus told his followers (Matthew 28:19) to “go make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…”

Jesus’ disciples obeyed and spread His lesson of love. We in this country have been blessed to live in this land of freedom whether as native born Americans, indigenous people, or immigrants from other lands because it was founded on Jesus’ teachings which were written down by various disciples who were eye witnesses, and per John, were recorded that “you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God,..” (John 20:30, 31).

The founding Fathers referenced and incorporated many scriptures in their writings from their copies of the 1599 Geneva Bible and the 1611 King James English translations of the Holy Bible.

Jesus message was one of respect and love for one another.

Paul wrote of love in the 13th chapter of 1st Corinthians:

“ Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude , it is not self-seeking , it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

A message to reflect on in the coming New Year.
