A Suttons Bay couple who met while both were attending the University of Michigan will celebrate 50 years of marriage tomorrow.

Larry and Barbara (VanLooy) Graves were married on Dec. 29, 1967, in Northwestern Baptist Church in Southfield.

The couple has resided for 45 years in Leelanau County, where Larry is an architect who has designed a number of businesses and residences. Barbara is retired from the trust department in Huntington Bank.

She is an active volunteer with Leelanau Christian Neighbors, and holds a seat on the Suttons Bay- Bingham District Library Board of Trustees.

The couple are members of the Suttons Bay Congregational Church.

The Graves are parents of three children, Cynthia and Garrick Opie of Suttons Bay, Bethany and Dan Stowe of Northport and Brian and Sandy Graves of Bay City.

They also have eight grandchildren, Zach and Sophie Stowe; Bryce, Brayden and Grayson Opie; and Lilly, Lauren and James Graves.

Larry and Barbara and planning to hold a private anniversary celebration with their immediate family.
