Bobcat to become school mount

A bobcat who didn’t make it to the other side of the road will eventually provide a learning opportunity for Suttons Bay students.

County Sheriff Mike Borkovich reports that a bobcat that was struck and killed by a car in Leland Township has been turned over to a local taxidermist, who will mount the cat for use in classrooms in Suttons Bay.

“(The driver) didn’t want it to be wasted, so we checked with the DNR, and then the schools,” Borkovich said.

The first call went to Suttons Bay, which gladly accepted.

The bobcat, a large female, was struck off Eagle Highway just north of the village of Lake Leelanau.

“There are a lot of bobcats out there, more than people realize. It’s not unusual to see them getting hit on roads,” Borkovich said.
