Talk of the County
CLIVE KAGANDE moved to Leelanau County from his home in Harare, Zimbabwe four years ago to earn his pilot’s license. Name: Clive Kagande
Town or township of residence: Solon Township
Resident since: 2014
Age and birthplace: 21 and Harare, Zimbabwe
Occupation: I work in the marketing department for All Weather Seal and am a full-time student at Northwestern Michigan College (NMC).
Marital status: Single
You live in Leelanau County because: I moved to the Traverse City area because my sister was attending Central Michigan University at the time and the closest aviation school was NMC. I chose to live in Leelanau County, though, because my old roommate from Zimbabwe was living in the county and I liked the idea of being just outside of town.
Last good movie you saw: “Bright,” because I really related to the characters and how they had to handle their differences.
Last good book you read: “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” and it’s the best book I’ve ever read. I like to think of myself as a capitalist, and the book explores going down a path that I would like my own life to follow.
If you could trade places with one person for one day, it would be: Steve Harvey because he lives the exact same lifestyle that I want to live.
Things important to you that you’ve accomplished so far: Earning my pilot’s license and living a very independent life since moving away from Zimbabwe.
What you hope to be doing in 10 years: I would hope to have a vacation house on the peninsula, live in a city like Chicago, and have earned my first million dollars.
Things you lose sleep over: Making it in life
If you could change one thing in Leelanau County it would be: Maybe a shorter winter or better roads, but in all honesty, I love it just the way it is.
Favorite dessert: Ice cream from McDonald's, I don’t get why it’s so underrated.
Are you a coffee drinker? Not really, but I love hot chocolate.
Favorite place in Leelanau County: Empire Bluff Trail
If you had more time you would: I'd spend more time with my parents, since I can't see them very often.
The words that best describe you are: Positive, classy, God-fearing
