MITCHEL ROMAN is shown at the Vatican with the Pope during Christmas Mass. MITCHEL ROMAN is shown at the Vatican with the Pope during Christmas Mass. It’s cleanup time, and it happens every year about this time. In November and beginning in December all the lights, decorations and trees — including those at Arts Bar — are put out in anticipation of Christmas. Now is the time to put away all the lights, decorations and trees, and I’m sure the multitude of other things. We hate to see the end of the Christmas season because it’s such a great time. But then reality checks in. Now it’s time to get down to shoveling walks and other assorted winter tasks.

The Empire Airport Roy Taghon Memorial Snow Mobile Races will be held Sunday at the Empire International Airport.

Roy Taghon was an Empire native who loved to snowmobile! If he wasn’t out testing or riding his snowmobile you could find him behind Taghon’s Corners (now known as the Empire BP gas station) in the Jet Shack working on his snowmobile. Roy was also involved in the Empire Catholic Church playing the organ or piano. He was very skilled at this art. Roy worked for his parents at the gas station and could ring you up faster than you could say hi!

Roy would also help out anyone who had a snowmobile question. He was a member of Hard Core Sledder, which is a website for snowmobiling.

Roy has been greatly missed by family and friends!

I wished some people Happy Birthday early last week because I wasn’t sure where or what I was going to be doing, I still wish all of you Happy Birthday and in addition, Happy Birthday wishes to Charles Acton, Dave Moffatt, Paul Kokowicz, Pam Hargraves and to former resident and diehard, usually disappointed Cubs fan, Dave Marshall.

And I guess I should wish barrister Richard Figura a Happy Birthday at the right time.
