Snowmobiles going fast

It will be loud Saturday in Empire Township at the Roy Taghon Memorial Empire Snowmobile Drag Race.

The race and day are named after an Empire resident and church organist who died while snowmobile riding.

The 660-foot races begin at 11 a.m., with registration starting at 8 a.m. Attendees can warm up in a heated beer tent and dance to live music.

Final vote for school expansion

The Leland Board of Education is expected next week to put its stamp on a proposal to sell a $24.5 million bond that would pay for a second story for elementary classes, new gymnasium and improvements to the oldest section of the school.

A feasibility study sanctioned by the School Board came back with three options. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Monday.

Music fit for a King

The public is invited to listen and join in at a free concert Monday hosted by the Pathfinder School in Grelickville commemorating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King.

Community and student musicians will perform a musical salute to King that will include sing-alongs. The concert will begin at 1:50 p.m. in the school gymnasium.
