Kasson works on budget, sets annual meeting date

Work on the 2018-19 budget and annual meeting preparations were discussed last week by the Kasson Township Board.

Board members during their regular monthly meeting set their annual meeting for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at the township hall.

The date is one week earlier than the traditional “last Saturday in March” for annual meetings, a tradition that has been observed for decades. However, the date now conflicts with schools’ designated spring break for students.

“That makes it difficult for families who would like to take advantage of their spring break,” supervisor Greg Julian said.

The earlier date is allowed by law, providing proper notice is provided to the public.

In related business the board agreed to meet at 6 p.m. prior to its Feb. 13 meeting to work on the budget for the coming fiscal year, which begins April 1.

Budget adoption is part of the annual meeting agenda.

Renovations to the bathrooms at the Township Hall are scheduled to be complete before the spring meeting.

“It’s moving along,” Julian said. “We’re pleased with the quality of work being done.”

Township resident Bob Underwood was hired to improve the bathroom facilities at a cost not to exceed $21,000.

The Township Hall has had just one operable toilet/sink for several years.

Once completed, there will be two bathrooms — one for females, the other for males. And both will be accessible to the handicapped.
