Learn about seafaring ways

Want to know more about Lake Michigan and its sea-faring ships? The maritime Heritage Alliance (MHA) will be your host at an open house Saturday at the organization’s home in Greilickville. MHA members will provide tours and be working on projects including construction of a 26-foot bateau. Maritime music and “larlinspike demos” will be ongoing. Enjoy free coffee and soup.

Churches hold meal benefits

Two Catholic churches on the peninsula are planning fund-raisers.

At Lake Leelanau St. Mary, a chili dinner will be served today from 4:30-7 p.m. to benefit Leelanau Christian Neighbors.

And at St. Michael’s Church in Suttons Bay, the Knights of Columbus on Sunday from 9:30-11 a.m. will serve a pancake breakfast to benefit the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight for older veterans.

Health care is forum topic

A retired Blue Cross executive will lead a program next Wednesday with the title, “Is Our Health Care System Broken.”

Kevin L. Sietz will speak next Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the county Government Center in Suttons Bay Township.

The forum, the first of a two-part series, will begin at noon. The second part will be held May 2. It’s sponsored by the League of Women Voters Leelanau County. Call
