Assault arrest puts L-L man in County Jail

The Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for domestic assault and interfering with telecommunications after a 911 hang up was received at the Dispatch Center.

Shortly after midnight Sunday morning, county dispatchers received a 911 hang up call. Prior to the call being disconnected, the dispatcher could hear screaming in the background.

Deputies responded to the residence on South French Road in Centerville Township to contact the parties involved.

According to a police report, a 34-year-old woman had come to the residence to pick up two children from her 30-year-old husband. The couple argued and the male pushed the female.

When the female attempted to contact 911, the male took the phone from her. The altercation was witnessed by two small children.

The male, whose residence was listed as Lake Leelanau, was placed under arrest for suspicion of domestic assault and interfering with a telecommunications device.

He was lodged in the Leelanau County Jail.

The 34-year-old female complained of being sore but did not request medical attention, according to a police report.

No injuries were reported last week when a 44-year-old woman drove her vehicle into a roadside garage in Glen Arbor Township.

About 2:55 p.m. last Thursday, deputies responded to the intersection of W. Harbor Hwy. (M-22) and W. Crystal View Drive. Dispatchers had handled a report of a vehicle off the roadway that had struck a garage.

The deputy reported finding a 2009 light-colored Toyota off the southwest side of the intersection with front end damage. The garage was also damaged.

According to a police report, a Cedar woman, 44, was southbound on M-22 when a black pick-up truck pulled into her path from W. Crystal View Dr.

The driver said she veered right to avoid the pick-up truck, leaving the roadway and striking the garage.

The driver was not injured in the traffic crash. However, major damage to the garage and property inside were reported.
