Bond reduced for defendant


SHANANAQUET SHANANAQUET A 41-year-old Suttons Bay man appeared Tuesday in District Court and had his bond reduced.

But he remained lodged at the county jail yesterday morning.

William P. Shananaquet, Jr. of 1025 S. W. Bay Shore Dr., was arrested Jan. 30 after at traffic stop in Bingham Township.

An investigation determined that Shananaquet had consumed intoxicants and was driving with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.

Shananaquet’s Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) at the scene registered .15, according to a police report.

He was charged with third-offense drunk driving and operating with a suspended, revoked or denied license.

His previous drunk driving convictions in 86th District Court were recorded in 2001 and 2010.

Third offense drunk driving is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

In addition, Shananaquet was also arraigned on a felony charge of failing to register as a sex offender, a 4-year offense.

Tuesday in court his bond was reduced to 10 percent $5,000. However, he must have a GPS tether in place prior to release, according to court documents.

Shananaquet’s next court date is Tuesday when a preliminary exam is scheduled.
