Superintendent glad to be back into education

To the editor:

Last June, I retired from a 39-year career in public education and moved to Leelanau County. I looked forward to doing other things in my life. Little did I know that five weeks later, I would be appointed the interim superintendent of Suttons Bay Public Schools. When I was hired, I stated that Suttons Bay Public School is a “gem.” I still believe that.

I have worked as your Interim Superintendent for the past six months and have enjoyed every day. As we approached the midpoint of the school year, I decided that maybe I could continue past this school year in this capacity. I had many reasons, but two really stick out. I not only have a job to complete (it’s never done), but I truly love the people in our district. I love the diversity of our students. They are friendly and treat me with respect. The staff works very hard and is willing to do whatever it takes to provide the best education for our students. Parents and community members support our school. I could go on and on about the virtues our school offers.

I wish to take this opportunity to thank the students, staff, parents, and community for supporting Suttons Bay Public Schools. I look forward to continuing into year 41 — No. 2 at Suttons Bay — next year as your superintendent. Thank you.
