A retired school administrator has been tapped to serve as interim facilities and operations director at Glen Lake Community School.

The Glen Lake Board of Education approved a contract with Doug Dowdy to serve in place of Joe Hobbins who retires next week after more than 35 years of service.

Dowdy’s local work history includes serving as Cherry Republic’s inventory/ distribution coordinator, North American VASA race director and transportation service manager at Bay Area Transportation Authority.

His resume also includes a stint as associate director of athletics at Eastern Michigan University.

Dowdy has also served as a substitute administrator at the school.

“I envision (Dowdy) serving in somewhat the same capacity as Mike Hartigan did when we were without a superintendent,” board president Fran Seymour said. “It will give us time to figure out what we want to position to look like in the future.”

Hartigan served as interim superintendent at Glen Lake after the resignation of former superintendent Joan Groening.

Dowdy is expected to work through Sept. 1. Compensation for the interim position has yet to be negotiated, superintendent Sander Scott said.

Hobbins is one of two longtime staff members retiring this year.

Secondary guidance counselor Ginna Woessner has announced she’ll be retiring at the end of the current school year. She has been at Glen Lake for 16 years.

In other personnel-related business Monday, the School Board approved new hires and their assignments:

 Anne Brow, substitute teacher.
