Fest in Empire called off

There are plenty of outdoor activities planned this coming weekend through the county.

But one traditional event — the Empire Winterfest which featured the popular polar dip in South Bar Lake — is going by the wayside this year.

“Several people that usually participate in the planning of the events are not available so we are sitting this Winterfest out,” said Sue Carpenter, secretary of the Empire Area Community Center. “Maybe next year.”

However, the Empire Lions Club has not changed plans for their annual pancake breakfast held each year in conjunction with the Winterfest celebration.

Lions will serve pancakes from 8 a.m. to noon at the Empire town hall.

Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for kids age 7-12.

Children 6 and under eat free.
